University Internship Placements at Pacific Smiles Group

Pacific Smiles Group is invested in the next generation of professionals coming into the industry; this extends to our dentist support office team. We have a regular intake of university student interns who come into the business to grow their industry experience and in turn, share their ideas and knowledge from another perspective.

Hear from Taylor Long, one of our recent interns about her experience at Pacific Smiles Group.

Coming into this experience, I had three specific goals in mind: to improve my confidence, improve my technical skills in excel and digital marketing programs, and apply my knowledge in creating strategic and targeted content. Within these goals, I also had expectations of PSG to provide a supportive and valuable learning experience that allowed me opportunities to grow individually and to enhance these skills in a professional environment.

Having had opportunities to actively learn, apply knowledge, and produce results, this experience has proven invaluable in allowing me to apply my Marketing Degree as I venture into a professional role. In completing this placement as a marketing coordinator, I applied this knowledge by being trusted to complete tasks individually and to use marketing programs to create content and results. This also provided me with a broad understanding of the processes that accompany each marketing role and how to create, organise and deliver specific tasks.

While I was extremely eager to have the opportunity to apply and enhance my marketing skills, it quickly became obvious that this experience wasn’t just about attaining something to add to my LinkedIn profile. Rather, it was a meaningful and exciting time for me to grow as a person, improve my communication and networking skills and become more confident in myself and my abilities. The significance of this became even more evident in my reflection of applying to various placements, as I realised that personal growth is not always at the forefront for all placement students and hosts. However, PSG allowed me the opportunity to improve both personally and academically, ultimately shaping my understanding and appreciation for workplace inclusion and the importance of moral and culture within the environments we work. The marketing team at Pacific Smiles Group went above and beyond in making me feel welcome, comfortable, and valuable, which is one of the things I value most about this team.

For me, undertaking this placement has provided a better understanding of what I want to work toward and has given me the motivation to succeed and provide value wherever I work. In understanding the importance of providing value to workplaces as a recent graduate of The University of Newcastle, I can safely say that my drive to succeed and give 110% wherever I work, is stronger now than ever. I am hopeful to return to Pacific Smiles Group to continue my learning and to assist in their further growth and would like to thank PSG for this amazing experience. The team at PSG have opened my eyes to what is possible when you are around positive, kind and supportive people and have embedded in me the importance of feeling comfortable in professional roles.

As an experience that has allowed me to grow as a young woman joining the marketing industry and starting my career, PSG has set the bar high for future comparable experiences and workplaces. I highly encourage other graduates and students to reach out and experience the rewarding placement opportunities that PSG provided for me and all that they are working towards.
